At present it is possible to do a tandem progression (I think it's 4 tandem jumps then 4 PFF jumps) but that's the closest that we currently have. In Canada it's called PFF (Progressive Free Fall) instead of AFF, and in most cases the prices are about the same. We recommend Static Line over PFF right now because you get more jumps and more canopy flight for the same price and it is a lot quicker to get jumps in with S/L than PFF. With S/L a single instructor can take up 4-5 students, whereas with PFF you need 2 instructors for 1 student to start out.

A comment on the above:

Parachute School of Toronto offers an alternative, intensive Instructor Assisted Freefall Training method that does NOT involve static line.

The method (refered to as Tandem Progression) involves 3 or 4 tandem jumps (dependant on performance), then moving into a series of EIGHT SINGLE instructor assited freefall skydives (an instructor leaves the airplane, holding onto the student for the entire freefall and parachute deployment).

This is an alternative training method to static line (solo) that is similar to AFF (accelerated freefall) and PFF (progressive freefall), expect it involves starting with the tandem jumps and it does not invlove 2 instructors.

From my experiances, this method teachs the student more freefall and canopy DEPLOYMENT skills (per jump) and in less time (# of jumps) than the static line method. In the end, it likely costs less than the static line system (dependant on the students learning aptitude), and the student gains more experiance and knowledge.

Currently PST has three instructors that have the capability and ratings to teach this method.

I was wondering what the pricing for tandem progression at PST was. I have completed 3 tandem jumps at another DZ and am planning on working towards my solo certificate. PST is much closer then the other DZ.

Welcome Robyn, we would be glad to have you!

The best bet would be to call ahead and talk with Adam or come up one weekend when Angus is around and discuss things with him directly.

Sorry for the slow reply - the whole family here is sick.

Ongoing Tandem jumps are $220 with tax. The standard approach takes a total of 4 tandems before going on to PFF.

PFF jumps are $175 with tax, with the exception of the first, which is $205 with tax because of the extra classroom training. It takes a minimum of 6 PFFs to get to your Solo Certificate.

These prices are likely to change a bit over the winter as we get an opportunity to do the math on the costs of providing the jumps.

Great thanks! Another question...Do you know if any or all my tandems done at the other DZ can count towards my 4 needed. I've done 3, progressively doing more each time and I have my log book for them too.

Robyn :)

Certainly, experience from elsewhere can count towards your certification. Having a logbook recording your experience is key; we'll need it to see what skills you should be working on next.
